OpenWorlds demonstrates X3D, Open Standards Technology to Deliver Virtual Experiences via the Web

PHILADELPHIA- -Aug. 07, 2001--
OpenWorlds Demonstrates X3D, Open Standards Technology to Deliver
Virtual Experiences via the Web

OpenWorlds(tm), Inc., plans to demonstrate the first commercial implementation of X3D(tm),
the next generation Web 3D open standard at SIGGRAPH 2001.

"We live in a 3D world. coupled with the rapid advances in graphics hardware, X3D offers
technologists the framework to transform the Web from a flat passive place to an
intelligent, immersive place where we will learn, work and play through engaging virtual
experiences," comments Rick Nelson, OpenWorlds' CEO.

He also notes that "Open standards are an opportunity for companies to influence and forge
the technology that is the foundation of their business while providing the stability,
longevity and multiple vendor support that many applications and customers demand.
OpenWorlds has been a major contributor to X3D as we believe in the power of cutting-edge
3D technology that can also bring consistency to the broader industry through cooperation
with related standards such as MPEG and XML."

"For technologists, X3D offers a small lightweight core, a component structure to permit
full extensibility, close ties to other standards such as XML and MPEG-4, and mechanisms to
innovate and rapidly advance the technology while providing compatibility to the earlier
generation Wed 3D standard, VRML97," states OpenWorlds' CTO, Dr. Paul Diefenbach.

This week, the Web 3D Consortium announced the launch of the X3D (eXtensible 3D) standard
as the state-of-the-art successor to VRML. The consortium plans the eventual submission of
X3D to the International Standards Organization for ratification, which will provide
long-term stability for Web 3D content and applications.

OpenWorlds, Inc., provides the technology for building intelligent, interactive Web 3D
applications and the consulting services to bring concepts to reality.  The OpenWorlds
AppKit produces applications that are scalable from laptops to kiosks to full immersive VR
environments.  X3D extensibility allows OpenWorlds to preserve the customer's investment.
Learn about X3D at OpenWorlds' booth #2029 at SIGGRAPH 2001.

OpenWorlds Announces Investment from Ben Franklin Technology Partners for Its
Next Generation Internet 3D Technology

PHILADELPHIA- -Dec. 07, 2000-- Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/SEP) has invested in OpenWorlds to fuel the company's continued product development and commercialization. OpenWorlds' leading-edge 3D graphics and Virtual Reality Internet applications will play a key role in building the next generation Internet.

OpenWorldsTM advanced technology is an open system which extends new and legacy applications with 3D graphics, animation, and virtual reality (VR) simulation capabilities, and also shares 3D worlds across the Web. OpenWorlds brings 3D graphics and VR into any application. Industries such as E-learning, Computer Aided Design, Architecture, and Medicine are dramatically enhancing the value of their Internet offerings by incorporating OpenWorlds unique features.

"The first phase of the Internet has been primarily two dimensional and not visually dynamic," notes Rick Nelson OpenWorlds CEO, "our technology allows applications to be dramatically enriched with highly interactive 3D capabilities. These advances represent a greater order of magnitude than the jump from radio to TV".

This project is supported by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development through the statewide Ben Franklin Partnership.  Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania (BFTP/SEP) invest in the development and application of new products, technologies, and ideas among entrepreneurs and established companies.

"We feel that BFTP/SEP's inclusion of OpenWorlds for their portfolio after their selective process further demonstrates the commercial potential of our technology," states Founder and CTO, Dr. Paul Diefenbach. "From OpenWorlds beginnings developing Space Station simulations where we were deemed a `NASA Success Story' to Ben Franklin's selection, OpenWorlds continues to be recognized for its innovative 3D Web technology."

OpenWorlds customers and partners include SGI, ATI, NASA and Mitsubishi. In NASA's publication of Spinoff, NASA distinguished OpenWorlds technology as "powerful software." OpenWorlds technology brings 3D graphics and Virtual Reality into any application, and will play a significant part in providing software solutions to help advance the Internet to the next level.

2ND GENERATION INTERNET TECHNOLOGY COMPANY ADOPTS A NEW NAME, OPENWORLDS

OpenWorldsTM Inc., formerly known as DRaW Computing Associates Inc., brings 3D, sound, and simulation to the flat Internet world. "Our new name 'OpenWorlds' reflects the company's open technology architecture and mirrors the company mission to be a leading platform for highly interactive 3D Worlds on the Internet", states Richard Nelson, CEO.

"OpenWorlds creates an open software library accessible by all, open to platforms, open to scripting languages, and open to change. Because OpenWorlds technology is versatile, the company is well positioned to drive 3D and Virtual Reality applications on the 2nd generation Internet," according to CTO, Dr. Paul Diefenbach.

Now utilized in many commercial applications, OpenWorlds technology was originally designed for NASA to create virtual worlds to help prepare astronauts to work aboard the International Space Station. In NASA's publication of Spinoff, NASA deemed DRaW's OpenWorlds technology as "powerful software" that will facilitate in the training of future astronauts.

OpenWorlds develops technology to power Web-based virtual reality and 3D applications utilized in numerous capacities such as E-learning, Design and Architecture, Healthcare, E-Training and Entertainment.

OpenWorlds, when it was formerly known as DRaW Computing Associates, was selected as one of only 7 companies nationwide to present at the 1998 NASA Technology Commercialization Review. As noted on NASA's Success Stories Website, OpenWorlds' "products hold various competitive strengths . . . OpenWorlds . . . brings VRML and 3D graphics and simulation capabilities into any software system, i.e., CAD packages, games, training packages, etc. The technology delivers open rendering and is supported by Sun, SGI, and Windows."

OpenWorlds fills the niche market of providing web-based 3D graphics integration for software developers because of its performance, features, ease of integration, the number of platforms it supports, and because of the savings realized versus in-house development.

OpenWorlds allows for rapid software development, and will continue to develop strategic alliances with companies who are interested in building commercially marketable applications for end users, using OpenWorlds' libraries. OpenWorlds' goal is to play a key role in shaping the Internet of the future.
